Genasense® (oblimersen sodium) Injection inhibits the production of a protein known as Bcl-2. By reducing production of Bcl-2 in cancer cells, Genasense seeks to restore the biological process whereby cancer cells are killed by standard anticancer treatments – a process known as apoptosis.
Genasense is an investigational anticancer agent undergoing testing to evaluate its safety and efficacy in various forms of cancer when used in conjunction with standard therapies. Studies are currently underway to examine the potential role of Genasense in a variety of clinical indications.

Genasense (oblimersen sodium) Injection Development Strategy
Genta is developing Genasense in combination with standard anticancer therapies. In a typical example, Genasense is administered for several days alone and then together with regular doses of chemotherapy. This sequence is then repeated, depending upon the particular types of chemotherapy regimen and cancer. Genasense has the potential to be used in combination with many types of anticancer therapy.
The safety and efficacy
of Genasense have not been established for any use.
